FreeCell — Play the Classic One-Deck Solitaire Game Online
FreeCell is a well-loved solitaire card game that uses a standard 52-card deck and challenges players to think carefully, plan ahead, and make every move count. Unlike many other solitaire variations, FreeCell is known for being almost completely solvable with the right strategy, making it perfect for card-game fans who enjoy logic and skill-based challenges. Every card is dealt face-up at the beginning of the game, giving players full visibility and complete control over their decisions.
Game Layout
The game begins with all 52 cards dealt into eight tableau piles. Above these piles are two important areas: the four Free Cells on the top left and the four Foundation piles on the top right. Understanding how these areas work is the key to mastering FreeCell.
Tableau: Eight piles where cards are initially dealt and where most movement occurs.
Free Cells: Four open storage spaces that can each hold one card temporarily.
Foundations: Four piles, one for each suit, where you build from Ace through King.
Objective of the Game
Your goal is to move all 52 cards to the foundation piles. Cards must be stacked in ascending order by suit: Ace, 2, 3, and so on up to King. Once all four foundations have 13 cards each, you win the game.
How to Play FreeCell
In FreeCell, strategy is everything. The top cards of each tableau pile and the cards placed in Free Cells are available for movement. On the tableau, cards can be built downward by alternating colors. For example, a black 7 can be placed on a red 8.
You may move only one card at a time under normal rules. However, you can move sequences of correctly arranged cards if you have enough empty spaces—either in Free Cells or in tableau piles—to temporarily hold cards during the move. This technique, known as a super move, is essential for solving tougher layouts.
Tableau to Tableau: Build sequences by alternating colors and descending ranks.
Tableau to Free Cell: Store a single card if you need to free up space or reach hidden cards.
Free Cell to Tableau: Move stored cards back when they fit into a descending sequence.
To Foundation: Move cards there whenever a correct ascending step is available.
Strategy Tips
Try to keep as many Free Cells empty as possible—they expand your movement options dramatically. Focus on freeing Aces and low-ranked cards early so you can start building your foundation piles. Clear entire tableau columns whenever you can, because open columns allow much larger card group movements and make higher-level strategies possible.
