Game Intro
Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II is an action RPG released for the Game Boy Advance in 2003. Developed by Webfoot Technologies and published by Atari, it serves as the direct sequel to the original Legacy of Goku and covers some of the most memorable story arcs from the Dragon Ball Z anime.
Unlike its predecessor, this sequel expands almost every aspect of the experience. Players are no longer limited to controlling a single character for the entire adventure. Instead, they can switch between several fan-favorite fighters, including Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Future Trunks, each bringing unique abilities to exploration and combat.
The game follows the events of the Android and Cell sagas, taking players through familiar locations and major battles from the series. While the story remains faithful to the anime, additional side content and optional encounters give players more reasons to explore beyond the main storyline.
For many Dragon Ball fans, The Legacy of Goku II is remembered as one of the strongest handheld adaptations of the franchise thanks to its improved gameplay systems, larger world, and greater freedom compared to the original game.
How to Play
Players explore a large top-down world filled with towns, wilderness areas, hidden locations, and story events. Progression is tied to completing missions, defeating enemies, talking to characters, and unlocking new areas as the story advances.
Combat takes place in real time and combines close-range attacks with powerful energy-based techniques. Different characters have their own strengths, encouraging players to switch between them depending on the situation. Some areas can only be accessed by specific characters, making exploration an important part of the experience.
Defeating enemies rewards experience points, allowing characters to level up and improve their overall stats. As characters become stronger, they gain access to new abilities and can handle tougher opponents found later in the game.
One of the biggest additions is the inclusion of side quests. Optional missions scattered throughout the world offer extra rewards, experience points, and unique encounters that are not part of the main story. Exploring thoroughly often leads to hidden capsules, useful upgrades, and secret areas that can easily be missed.
As the adventure progresses, certain characters unlock powerful transformations. Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and Trunks can become Super Saiyans, dramatically increasing their combat effectiveness. Piccolo gains his own enhancement by removing his weighted clothing, improving his speed and allowing him to recover health over time.

Legacy
The Legacy of Goku II is widely regarded as the game that fixed many of the issues found in the original release. Its larger world, improved combat, better progression system, and multiple playable characters helped establish it as one of the most enjoyable Dragon Ball Z games on the Game Boy Advance. It would later be followed by Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury, which expanded on many of the ideas introduced here.
