Pokémon Ruby Version (2003) | Nintendo Game Boy Advance Video Game
Play Pokémon Ruby Version on the Game Boy Advance and explore the Hoenn region, catch and train Pokémon, challenge Gym Leaders, battle Team Magma, and become the Pokémon Champion in this classic Generation III RPG adventure.
Game Intro
Pokémon Ruby Version is a classic role-playing adventure released for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance in 2003. Developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, it marked the beginning of Generation III and introduced players to the vibrant Hoenn region.
Unlike the previous Pokémon games, Ruby brought a noticeable visual upgrade with improved graphics, new battle animations, and a completely fresh roster of Pokémon to discover. Players take on the role of a young Trainer setting out on a journey to become the Pokémon Champion while exploring towns, caves, forests, and oceans across Hoenn.
Along the way, you'll encounter rival Trainers, challenge Gym Leaders, uncover the plans of Team Magma, and build a team from over 200 Pokémon. Ruby also introduced new gameplay systems such as Pokémon Abilities, Double Battles, and Pokémon Natures, features that would become permanent parts of the series moving forward.
Even years after its release, Pokémon Ruby remains one of the most memorable entries in the franchise thanks to its strong sense of exploration, rewarding progression, and unique regional setting.
How to Play
Your adventure begins when you choose one of three starter Pokémon and start exploring the Hoenn region. The main goal is to travel from town to town, challenge Gym Leaders, earn badges, and eventually compete for the title of Pokémon Champion.
Wild Pokémon can be found throughout the world in tall grass, caves, water routes, and other locations. By weakening them in battle and using Poké Balls, you can add them to your collection and strengthen your team.
Battles are turn-based, requiring players to choose attacks, use items, switch Pokémon, or apply different strategies depending on the opponent. Winning battles grants experience points, allowing Pokémon to level up and become stronger. Many Pokémon evolve into more powerful forms once certain conditions are met.
Building a balanced team is an important part of the experience. Different Pokémon types have strengths and weaknesses against one another, so choosing the right Pokémon for each battle can make a significant difference.
Outside of battles, players can explore hidden areas, collect items, complete their Pokédex, and uncover story events connected to Team Magma's attempts to reshape the Hoenn region.
Explore the Hoenn Region
Travel across a large and diverse world filled with forests, deserts, mountains, oceans, and bustling cities. Each area offers new Pokémon to find and challenges to overcome.
Capture and Train Pokémon
Catch wild Pokémon and develop them into powerful teammates. Training, leveling up, and evolving Pokémon are at the heart of the adventure.
Strategic Turn-Based Battles
Success in battle depends on understanding Pokémon types, move effectiveness, and team composition. Careful planning often matters more than simply having higher levels.
Gym Leaders and Elite Four
Challenge eight Gym Leaders to earn badges and unlock access to new areas. Once all badges are collected, you'll face the Elite Four and the Champion in the game's toughest battles.
New Generation III Features
Pokémon Ruby introduced several mechanics that became series staples, including Abilities, Natures, Double Battles, and improved Pokémon management systems.
