Game Intro
Checkers, also known as Draughts in many parts of the world, is one of the most recognizable strategy board games ever made. The rules are easy to learn, but every match requires careful planning, smart positioning, and the ability to think a few moves ahead.
The goal is simple: capture all of your opponent's pieces or leave them with no legal moves. While the basics can be picked up in minutes, winning consistently takes practice. Every move matters, especially once pieces begin to disappear and the board opens up.
Whether you're playing a quick casual game or challenging yourself against a stronger opponent, Checkers remains a timeless test of strategy that rewards patience and good decision-making.
How to Play
The game is played on an 8×8 checkerboard using only the dark-colored squares. Each player starts with 12 pieces placed on the three rows closest to them.
The player with the dark pieces makes the first move. Players then take turns moving one piece at a time diagonally to an empty square.
Regular pieces can only move forward diagonally. If one of your opponent's pieces is directly next to yours and the square beyond it is empty, you can jump over it to capture it. In most rule sets, making a capture is mandatory whenever one is available.
If multiple captures are possible in a single turn, you must continue jumping until no further captures can be made. Captured pieces are removed from the board immediately.
When one of your pieces reaches the far side of the board, it is promoted to a King. Kings can move diagonally both forward and backward, making them much more flexible and valuable during the endgame.
A match ends when one player has captured every opposing piece or leaves the opponent without any legal moves.

Tips for New Players
- Try to control the center of the board whenever possible.
- Avoid leaving pieces exposed unless it leads to a better position.
- Think ahead before making captures, as they can sometimes create opportunities for your opponent.
- Protect your back row early in the game to make it harder for your opponent to earn a King.
- Kings become extremely powerful in the late game, so promoting your pieces should always be a priority.
