How to Play

The game begins with four discs placed in the center of the board—two black and two white. Each player takes turns placing one disc on an empty square.

A move is only valid if it traps one or more of your opponent's discs between the disc you just placed and another one of your own. This can happen horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Every trapped disc is immediately flipped to your color.

As the board fills up, available moves become more limited, making each decision increasingly important. Sometimes taking the obvious move isn't the best choice, especially if it gives your opponent access to valuable positions on the board.

If you have no legal moves available, your turn is skipped and your opponent continues playing. The game ends when neither player can make another move or when the board is completely filled.

Winning the Game

Once the match is over, every disc on the board is counted. The player with the most discs showing their color wins.

One of the most interesting parts of Reversi is that leading early doesn't guarantee success. Experienced players often sacrifice discs during the opening and middle game to secure stronger positions later. The final few turns usually decide the outcome, making every match exciting until the very end.

Strategy Tips

Reversi rewards careful planning more than aggressive play. Capturing the most discs on every turn may feel satisfying, but it often creates opportunities for your opponent.

Corners are the most valuable spaces because discs placed there can never be flipped. Edges are also useful when controlled carefully, while giving away corners is usually a costly mistake.

As you gain experience, you'll start recognizing common patterns, setting traps, and thinking several moves ahead. Learning these strategies is part of what makes Reversi enjoyable to play over and over again.
