Pokémon Trading Card Game (1998) | Original Game Boy Color Video Game

Play Pokémon Trading Card Game (1998) on Game Boy Color and experience a unique Pokémon adventure focused on card battles, deck building, and collecting powerful cards as you challenge club leaders and become a card master.

Pokémon Trading Card Game for the Game Boy Color brings the popular card game to a handheld format, making it easy to enjoy strategic Pokémon battles without needing a physical card collection. Released in 1998, the game follows a young trainer who travels across an island dedicated to the Pokémon Trading Card Game, challenging club leaders, collecting rare cards, and working toward becoming the ultimate card master.

Unlike the main Pokémon RPGs, this adventure focuses entirely on deck building and tactical card battles. Whether you're already familiar with the trading card game or completely new to it, the game does an excellent job of introducing its mechanics while offering plenty of depth for experienced players. Its combination of exploration, collecting, and strategic matches helped make it one of the most memorable Pokémon spin-offs on the Game Boy Color.

How to Play

The goal is to defeat opponents in card battles by using Pokémon, Energy, and Trainer cards effectively. Each player starts with a deck and draws cards at the beginning of the match. Pokémon are placed on the field and powered up with Energy cards, allowing them to use attacks against opposing Pokémon.

When an opponent's Pokémon takes damage equal to or greater than its HP, it is Knocked Out. Every time you Knock Out an opposing Pokémon, you earn a Prize Card. Collecting all of your Prize Cards before your opponent wins the match.

Success depends heavily on building a balanced deck. Strong Pokémon are important, but you'll also need enough Energy cards to attack consistently and Trainer cards to improve your strategy. As you progress through the game, you'll earn booster packs containing new cards that can be used to strengthen and customize your deck.

The adventure mode revolves around challenging various card clubs, each specializing in different Pokémon types and strategies. Learning how different cards work together and adapting your deck to counter opponents becomes increasingly important as the difficulty rises.
