Pokémon Yellow | Nintendo Original Classic Game Boy Game

Relive the classic Pokémon adventure in Pokémon Yellow for Game Boy. Explore Kanto with Pikachu as your partner, battle Gym Leaders, catch Pokémon, and experience an anime-inspired version of the original Pokémon journey.

Pokémon Yellow is a special version of the original Pokémon adventure released for the Nintendo Game Boy. While it follows the same journey across the Kanto region seen in Pokémon Red and Blue, this edition was heavily inspired by the popular Pokémon animated series. Instead of choosing between Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, players begin their adventure with Pikachu, creating a much closer connection to the anime's main storyline.

From the moment the game begins, Pokémon Yellow feels different from its predecessors. Pikachu isn't just another party member—it becomes your constant companion throughout the adventure. As you travel between towns, battle Gym Leaders, and work toward becoming the Pokémon Champion, Pikachu follows behind you and reacts to the way you treat it.

The game also introduces several anime-inspired elements. Familiar faces such as Jessie and James from Team Rocket make appearances, adding extra charm for fans of the television series. Combined with visual improvements and a few exclusive features, Pokémon Yellow offers a unique take on the classic first-generation Pokémon experience.

How to Play

Your goal is to explore the Kanto region, capture Pokémon, train a strong team, and earn all eight Gym Badges. Along the way, you'll challenge rival trainers, stop Team Rocket's schemes, and work toward completing the Pokédex by discovering and catching different Pokémon species.

Unlike Red and Blue, your journey begins with Pikachu as your only starter Pokémon. Pikachu's mood changes depending on how you play. Winning battles, leveling up, and taking good care of it will improve its happiness, while repeatedly allowing it to faint can make it less friendly toward you. You can check on Pikachu at any time to see its reactions and expressions.

As you progress, you'll still have opportunities to obtain the original starter Pokémon through special in-game events, making it possible to build a diverse team without trading. Battles remain turn-based, requiring players to choose attacks, manage Pokémon types, and develop effective strategies against tougher opponents.

Exploration is a major part of the experience. Hidden items, secret areas, rare Pokémon encounters, and optional side activities encourage players to venture off the main path and discover everything the Kanto region has to offer.

Why Pokémon Yellow Still Stands Out

Pokémon Yellow remains one of the most memorable entries in the series because it bridges the gap between the original games and the anime that introduced many players to the Pokémon world. The simple addition of a Pikachu companion creates a stronger sense of connection than most Game Boy titles of its era. For fans of classic Pokémon adventures, it continues to be one of the most charming ways to experience the beginning of the franchise.
