Game Intro
Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 brings one of Nintendo's most celebrated platformers to the Game Boy Advance. Originally released for the Super Nintendo, this handheld version recreates the full Dinosaur Land adventure while adding a handful of changes designed specifically for portable play.
The story begins after Princess Peach is kidnapped by Bowser and his children, the Koopalings. Mario and Luigi set out across Dinosaur Land to rescue her, traveling through forests, caves, castles, ghost houses, and hidden routes packed with secrets. Along the way, they discover Yoshi and help free the captured Yoshis scattered throughout the world.
While the core adventure remains faithful to the SNES original, this Game Boy Advance release includes several updates. Players can choose between Mario and Luigi from the start, and Luigi features his own unique handling characteristics. The package also includes the classic Mario Bros. arcade game, offering an additional multiplayer mode separate from the main adventure.
Even years after its release, Super Mario Advance 2 remains one of the strongest platforming experiences on the Game Boy Advance thanks to its creative level design, rewarding exploration, and impressive amount of hidden content.
How to Play
Your goal is to guide Mario or Luigi through the many regions of Dinosaur Land and ultimately defeat Bowser. The adventure unfolds across an overworld map where different paths lead to standard stages, fortresses, ghost houses, castles, and secret areas.
Each level presents a mix of enemies, hazards, platforming challenges, and hidden collectibles. Success depends on mastering movement, timing jumps, avoiding obstacles, and uncovering alternate exits that can reveal entirely new routes on the map.
Several power-ups help make the journey easier. Mushrooms increase your character's size and durability, Fire Flowers allow you to throw fireballs, and Starmen grant temporary invincibility. One of the most iconic abilities comes from the Cape Feather, which gives Mario or Luigi the power to glide and fly across large sections of a level when used skillfully.
Yoshi plays a major role throughout the adventure. After finding him, players can ride him through levels, use his tongue to eat enemies, and gain special abilities from colored Koopa shells. Exploring hidden areas eventually unlocks additional Yoshi colors, each with unique powers that can make discovering secrets much easier.
Completionists will find plenty to do beyond simply reaching the ending. Secret exits, hidden stages, Star World, and alternate routes encourage multiple playthroughs and reward careful exploration.
Controls
