WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames! (2003) | Original Game Boy Advance Video Game

WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames! is a fast-paced Game Boy Advance classic featuring over 200 microgames, quick reactions, challenging boss stages, and endless high-score fun.

Game Intro

Released for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames! introduced one of Nintendo's most unusual and memorable ideas. Instead of long levels or complex challenges, the game throws players into a nonstop series of tiny, fast-paced challenges that often last only a few seconds each.

The premise is simple: Wario wants to make money by creating video games, and the result is a collection of hundreds of bizarre microgames designed by him and his eccentric friends. Every challenge is different, and most are over before you have time to think. One moment you're swatting a fly, the next you're scoring a goal, avoiding danger, or interacting with familiar Nintendo characters.

What makes WarioWare stand out is its unpredictability. The game constantly shifts between different themes, visual styles, and gameplay ideas, keeping players guessing from start to finish. Its quick-fire format was unlike anything else available on the Game Boy Advance at the time and helped launch a long-running Nintendo series.

How to Play

The goal is to survive as many microgames as possible. Each microgame begins with a short instruction, usually just a single word or phrase, giving you an instant clue about what you need to do. You only have a few seconds to react correctly before the game moves on to the next challenge.

As you progress through a stage, the pace gradually increases. Microgames appear faster, leaving less time to understand what's happening and respond. Success depends on quick reactions and learning from mistakes rather than memorizing long sequences.

The game features more than 200 unique microgames spread across multiple character-themed stages. Each stage focuses on a particular style or theme, including sports, animals, classic Nintendo references, and many completely random situations. After clearing a series of microgames, players face a larger boss challenge that lasts longer and usually requires more focus than the standard rounds.

During your first playthrough of a stage, the objective is simply to survive long enough to defeat the boss and unlock new content. Once completed, stages can be replayed to chase higher scores and test how long you can last as the difficulty continues to increase.

In addition to the main campaign, the game includes several unlockable extras. These range from score-based challenges to multiplayer mini-games and special versions of classic Nintendo titles, giving players plenty of reasons to keep playing after finishing the main stages.

Controls

One of the reasons WarioWare works so well is its simple control scheme. Most microgames use only a few buttons, making them easy to understand but difficult to master when the speed ramps up.

Desktop/PC Controls

  • Arrow Keys – Move characters or interact with objects
  • Z – Perform actions, select, jump, or confirm
  • X – Secondary actions when required
  • Enter – Play/Pause the game

Game Boy Advance Controls

  • D-Pad – Move characters or interact with objects
  • A Button – Perform actions, select, jump, or confirm
  • B Button – Secondary actions when required
  • Start – Pause the game

Because every challenge uses the same basic controls in different ways, players can focus on reacting quickly rather than learning complicated mechanics.

Why It's Worth Playing

WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames! remains one of the most creative games on the Game Boy Advance. Its rapid-fire gameplay, quirky humor, and huge variety of microgames make it easy to pick up for a few minutes or play for hours while chasing high scores. Even years after its release, it still feels fresh thanks to its unpredictable design and unique approach to mini-game collections.
